Barbara Hutchinson Snipes M.A., CCC-SLP is a graduate of UCF with her post-baccalaureate and master's degree in Communicative Disorders. She also has a B.S.B.A. in marketing from University of Central Florida, and is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in speech/language pathology.
Ms. McCoy is an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida. She is a supervisor for the graduate and undergraduate students in the UCF Speech and Hearing Clinic. Ms. McCoy lives in Maitland, Fl., and has ten years experience working with patients/students in a clinical/educational setting. She has a private speech and language practice which also includes the NeuroNet Program for improved articulation, reading, and writing (a vestibular and auditory management of temporal processing) by Nancy Rowe, M.S., FAAA, (www.neuroacoustics.com).
With her experience working in a multidisciplinary setting with FDDLRS/Pre-school Intervention and Diagnostics, Ms. McCoy's conviction is to consider the whole child in diagnostics and treatment and to make adequate referrals to other specialists. Speech/language is often the first delay parents notice and act upon therefore speech-language pathologists are frequently the first specialists to treat the child.
Areas of challenge focus on various interventions for children and adolescents who's impairments are encompassed in the autistic/pervasive development spectrum (PDD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD)/(ADHD), learning disabilities (LD), and central auditory processing disorders (CAPD). Additionally in the areas of; oral motor, sensory motor integration, dysphagia, language, articulation, and pragmatics/behavior modification. Her passion includes hearing impaired clients using oral communication, modified speech cueing, and sign language.
o Ms. McCoy is in the process of researching and collecting data for the NeuroNet Program in collaboration with Leslie Doster, M.S. CCC-A. Her other research interests include; auditory processing, hearing impaired children/adolescents with attention deficit and learning disabilities as well as biological treatments to improve language and behavior for children/adolescents who fall in the ADD/ADHD/LD/PDD/Autism spectrum including toxins, pollutants, allergies, foods, and additives in connection with Drs. Bradstreet and Burger in Palm Bay, Fl.
Ms. McCoy is a licensed speech/language pathologist in the state of Florida and a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, the International Organization for the Education of the Hearing Impaired (IOEHI), and the Oral Hearing Impaired Section (OHIS); as well as a past member of; the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Advisory Committee (Orange and Brevard Counties Public Schools), the Crippled Children's Society (since renamed), (Orange County), the Learning Disability Advisory Committee (Orange County), and School Advisory Committee (SAC), (Orange and Brevard Counties).
